WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THE COURT REPORTING PROFESSION


   Our industry has undergone dramatic changes. There is a marked increase in the demand for reporting services and, at the same time, a national shortage of court reporters.

   CART providers are in ever-greater demand. Since the enactment of the Americans With Disabilities Act, hearing-impaired students in colleges and universities are entitled to a reporter to assist them during classes and lectures.

   The Federal Telecommunications Act mandates that every televised broadcast must have closed captioning, which will create approximately 30,000 captioning positions.

   Existing methods of reporting proved insufficient to accommodate the growth pattern. The industry became fearful of succumbing to utilization of electronic recording devices.
