Another reason why more CART providers are needed is because many deaf children are now encouraged to lip read rather than completely rely on sign language, as it tends to isolate them from the rest of the community. Having very good reading and writing skills, the representatives of this generation are now of college age, and CART providers are needed more than ever.

   CART requires realtime skills. Most CART providers are or were at one time court reporters. They have gone on to develop realtime skills and are now able to branch out into other professions, including CART and closed captioning.
